The Chameleon Cocktail Hat
I was asked to design a hat for formal occasion based on one of historical art movements. I often gravitate towards Surrealism with its inherent play with visual double-takes, and thought it would be a perfect art movement to select. Wanting to make something with a sense of humour, I came across a knitted fox scarf, which gave me an idea to have a curled up animal that morphs into the shape and decoration of the hat. Few days later, David Attenborough was on talking about Madagascar and irresistible chameleons. And so, after carving a hat-block and much steaming, forming and embellishing, the Chameleon Cocktail Hat was born.
